Our VIP guests Lei-ah and Elsa are enjoying the spring weather (yes, it’s spring in South Africa) at the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary and looking forward to Halloween!
In January, a wildfire devastated Panthera Africa Big Cat Sanctuary in South Africa’s Western Cape. ADI and other true sanctuaries immediately stepped up to help – a great display of unity and support. We flew an ADI team down and evacuated white lionesses, Lei-ah and Elsa, bringing them on a 15+ hour journey to ADIWS in Free State (with help from Driven by Nature). ADI has covered all the feeding and care costs of the lionesses during their stay.
The 9-year-old lionesses (both have enjoyed a birthday at ADIWS so are now 10), quickly settled in. They are inquisitive explorers, intrigued by the tigers and lions around them and always come to see anyone passing by, especially if they are with the sanctuary dogs.
Panthera Africa’s rebuilding is progressing and three lions have recently returned, while eight (including Lei-ah and Elsa) remain on their sanctuary vacations around South Africa. It is still unconfirmed when Lei-ah and Elsa might be heading back to the Cape, but when they do, they are going to be dearly missed by the ADIWS team, who have enjoyed bonding with them, and taking care of them.
In the meantime, while they continue to enjoy their ADIWS holiday, perhaps you’d like to sponsor Halloween pumpkins and treats for Lei-ah and Elsa or the other lions and tigers?
