Can Lupe lean on you?

Lupe is one of several tigers ADI rescued from a circus in Guatemala who have suffered from seizures, believed to be the result of in-breeding possibly made worse by early age malnutrition.

Despite the best possible veterinary care including MRI and CT scans for diagnostics, seizures have claimed the lives of Lupe’s sisters Sombra, Bimbi and mate Itza. Max (Lupe’s son) has also had one seizure and is being closely monitored.

Lupe’s seizures are believed to be triggered by multiple factors, including unusual noises, so we make special provisions when work is being undertaken near her. Dr Caldwell is treating her seizures but there are restrictions on what she can do as she needs to be monitored. We are therefore building a special needs habitat for Lupe with some adaptations to the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary tiger territory.

Lupe’s sons Max and Stripes have been moved into Alexis Habitat so they will be next to mom Lupe and have a contact fence. The Spice Girls, Luna, Sun and Moon have moved into Max and Stripes’ old habitat – Kakato by April Fong – and Sasha into their old habitat. Just a few adjustments to the fences are enabling us to build a 15,000 sqft special needs habitat for Lupe with secure drive-in access.

WILL YOU HELP THIS LOVELY TIGER WHO HAS BEEN THROUGH SO MUCH?

What we need:

The major cost is the fencing, gates etc., with additional costs including water supply, a new platform den, and underfloor heating for the house she is moving into – total for habitat modifications $13,889/£10,300.

We also need to install a main powerline from our central solar power station for the tiger houses – an important investment for all the tigers – $10,550/£7,850.

Our total target is therefore $24,439/£18,150.

Important: a donation of $15,000 includes naming rights for Lupe’s new habitat.
