Prof Steenkamp and Dr Peter Caldwell were at the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary for dental work on several of the lions today and will be back tomorrow. Today Rolex, Simba and Scarc, rescued by ADI from different circuses in Peru, had dental surgery, and tomorrow Ruben will be having dental surgery and Kesari will have a dental examination. Simba, Rolex and Scarc are all back in their habitats and have recovered from their treatment and are moving about.
Rolex had incisors extracted and root canals on his canine teeth. Prof Steenkamp says the treatment went well and Rolex should be more comfortable from now on!
Simba, one of our senior lions, had a filling replaced that had been originally put in by Prof Steenkamp several years ago.
Scarc’s teeth were in good condition but he had broken the very tip off a canine tooth and had a root canal and filling to repair it.
We also had a look at the flat-packed travel crates that will be bolted and shipped to Kuwait for the lions we will be bringing home to the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary. And we got to see a few of our other rescued animals including pigs Churchill and Roosevelt, dogs Milo and Rollo and geese Harold, Hoighty and Toighty.
