How Kiara will be spending Mothering Sunday

One of the great moments for ADI was reuniting Kiara with her cubs Mahla and Scarc after a circus in Peru tore the babies from their mother. Almost ten years later and Kiara will be spending the coming Mothering Sunday (10 March) with her family.

Mothering Sunday / Mother’s Day is marked in March in the UK, Ireland, Nigeria and most of the Middle East.

In honor of it, will you help support the care of Kiara and her beloved family so that they continue to enjoy many wonderful years together? Shop our collection of gifts for mum, which includes canvas prints of Kiara and her family, apparel, and bodycare.

Ruben the cover star

Everyone knows that Ruben is a star, but now he’s also the cover star of the ADI 2024 Animal Rescue Calendar and our new greeting cards – the perfect way to spread cheer this holiday season! He was rescued from years of isolation and confinement in a private zoo in Armenia that had shut down, all animals removed except him. For six lonely years, Ruben had not heard another lion, and fell silent. He arrived at the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary in August with difficulties walking and keeping his balance. The world watched as he wobbled out of his travel crate in his Keith’s Happiness Habitat and immediately played with his giant catnip punchbag. Now Ruben savors every bit of his new life at ADIWS, finding his voice again with his lion neighbors, enjoying catnip showers and all. His catnip-sprinkled mane in this calendar photo sums it up best.

2023 was certainly Ruben’s year…what will 2024 bring for this magnificent old warrior? Order your 2024 calendar today to support Ruben and our other rescued animals. Order US $ | UK £

Order your Ruben cards (packs of ten with envelopes), featuring his story of hope, resilience, and perseverance – the perfect message for the holidays. Order greeting cards US $ | UK £

Born to be wild

For animals like Sasha, rescued from a circus in Guatemala and now at the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary, it is sadly not possible to return them to the wild. But we can try to do the next best thing. She has the space to roam – the 2.5-acre Stephi Habitat – and a natural habitat she can blend into and disappear from view. Seeing Sasha leaping over one of the natural pools in her habitat or suddenly springing into the air to try and catch a bird are spectacular sights. It’s a long way from that bare circus cage in Guatemala, this is her piece of ‘wild’.

Sun is resting

The incredibly lively Sun gets a little shut eye at the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary in South Africa, but you know she’ll be playing again soon. Rescued from a circus in Guatemala, Sun lives with sisters Jade, Luna and Moon, known as the Spice Girls, they are four of the most playful animals we have ever rescued. And when it comes to toys like stacks of hay bales and giant catnip boxes, they are the most destructive. As winter approaches in South Africa, we will be adding hay bales for extra insulation around the dens for the lions and tigers. Each day the ADIWS team will be rebuilding the hay bales for the girls and each day they will tear them down and play with them. No wonder Sun needs to grab a rest when she can.
