Veterinary day

It was veterinary day at the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary with Dr Peter Caldwell and Prof Gerhard Steenkamp.

Kimba, Coco and Mahla, rescued from different circuses in Guatemala and Peru, had their teeth cleaned and Kimba and Coco each had a damaged incisor tooth treated by Prof. Gerhard Steenkamp. Dr Peter Caldwell, who darted the lions for the procedures, performed thorough veterinary examinations, took blood samples, and gave vitamin injections. Kimba also had an eye examination.

It was really a day of routine health care and maintenance for lions rescued from years of abuse in circuses, which leaves them with lifelong compromised bodies.
