Ten years ago today was one of the most emotional in our history, when ADI reunited Kiara with her cubs Scarc and Mahla. The family had been torn apart by a circus in Cusco, Peru but ADI rescued them in two separate raids enforcing the country’s animal circus ban. They are still together, enjoying life in the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary, South Africa.

TEN YEARS ON AND THE CUSCO FAMILY NEED YOUR HELP AGAIN.

 Those little cubs are much bigger these days – Scarc is an impressive 154.6kg/341lbs (over 24 stone!) and they are all powerful, healthy lions. However, because they like to do everything together, their favorite viewing platform and den (pictured) takes a pounding.

 As apex predators, lions love a vantage point to watch the world from and it is here that they often roar to the other lions. In the heat of the day they enjoy the shade of the den below. This is important enrichment and fulfils their natural instincts.

The boisterous Cusco family has had so much fun, the platform is falling apart! CAN YOU MARK THIS HISTORIC ANNIVERSARY by helping us raise $2,000/£1,500 to repair their platform/den and do basic maintenance on the habitat? The family has a huge over 6 acre natural habitat, so we need to paint and preserve the posts that support the 3,200 ft of fence that surrounds it.
