Will you help Muheeb?

Come closer and look into my eyes…..
Muheeb was bred by an animal trafficker, then sold into Kuwait’s illegal pet trade for a lonely life as someone’s misguided status symbol. By the time he was fully grown, his owner realised it was a mistake, knew Muheeb needed a better life. He surrendered Muheeb but there was nowhere for him – he is currently being cared for in Kuwait Zoo which is closed. Muheeb is 4-6 years old and finally has a chance of a home in Africa at the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary. Will you help Muheeb and four other lions rescued from Kuwait’s illegal wildlife pet trade make the journey to a new life? Donate

Jan and Tim report from Kuwait today. All five of the young lions who ADI is calling for help to take to the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary (ADIWS), were victims of the illegal pet trade. They were either seized, captured after being dumped, or voluntarily surrendered. They are in custody at the closed Kuwait Zoo where the lions have been cared for until a home could be found, we are grateful to the staff and volunteers who have helped.

Urgent call to give five young lions a future

Will you help us give five young lions, victims of the illegal pet trade in Kuwait, a new life at the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary?

The lions were either seized, captured after being dumped, or voluntarily surrendered, and are now in custody at the closed Kuwait Zoo. We are thankful to the staff and volunteers who have been caring for them until a home could be found. They heard how ADI had rescued Ruben from another closed zoo and asked for our help.

How Ruben’s life transformed in 11 pictures

The world’s loneliest lion had been left behind in a zoo that closed in Armenia. All alone, he had lost his roar and confinement and malnutrition left him with difficulty walking. His progress since stepping out at the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary in August has been beyond our dreams. His movement has improved; he has relaxed; he played with his first toy and keeps on playing; he saw and heard other lions after six lonely years; and he is roaring with other lions again. 2023 was Ruben’s year, but we hope for even more in 2024 including a bigger habitat.

From his epic journey with ADI’s Jan and Tim from Armenia to Africa to roaring with other lions again, check out these images of Ruben’s incredible 2023!

Emptying the cages

We have a very special event next weekend (Sunday, December 10) in Los Angeles celebrating a decade of ADI emptying entire countries of circus animals. For those in the LA area, we do hope you can join us for ‘Inside Liberty‘.

As our Stop Circus Suffering campaign gathered momentum and countries started banning animal circuses, a question emerged – how to enforce the bans and where would the animals go?

Inside Liberty: Saving circus animals in Guatemala

Please save the date – December 10th. ADI’s Jan and Tim will be in Los Angeles for a very special screening ‘Inside Liberty’, the inside story of ADI’s Operation Liberty, the 18-month mission emptying Guatemala’s circus cages.

After rescuing all the circus animals in Bolivia, Peru, and Colombia, we arrived in Guatemala to set up camp and help enforce the ban on animals in circuses. It turned into a grueling 18 months with raids on circuses, fierce negotiations, threats, confrontations, lawsuits, water shortages, an emergency evacuation of the big cats, and an airlift of tigers and lions that took us through 5 countries on 3 continents to get them home.

Help Matilda and friends

Will you help ADIWS provide a home for Matilda the cow, eight goats, two sheep, and a family of three horses?

The ADI Wildlife Sanctuary (ADIWS) is a paradise for rescued lions and tigers and has become a beacon of hope for other animals across our region of South Africa, where there are very limited facilities for animals saved from abuse. Tragically, when animals in distress are confiscated, there is often nowhere for them to go. At ADIWS we have the space to answer some of these calls for help and aid the enforcement of animal protection laws. But with new species arriving, we need to ensure we can cover the fencing, food, care and veterinary costs.
