There is a lot to take in when you are a young lion discovering a completely new world. BenTzur and Ori arrived at the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary in South Africa just a few weeks ago, following their journey out of Israel.

Born into the illegal wildlife trade, kept as trophy pets and used for photos, before Israel’s Nature and Parks Authority confiscated them. Sadly, they are part of a wider trade in wild animals kept as status symbols and displayed for attention online.

Now their days look very different. When they were let out of their night house at ADIWS, they immediately mapped their feeding camp space (20x20m), then waited impatiently at the gate, which they guessed was the way out! The gate was lifted and they systematically mapped their territory together, each platform, trees, toys, dens. Once they knew where everything was, they took their time choosing to climb platforms and go inside dens, selecting the places they like best.
