Hugs, kisses, head bumps and a whole lot of rolling around: GOLIATH AND CORALIE REUNITED.
As the truck pulled up with Goliath’s crate when he returned to the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary from the dentist, Coralie immediately began to roar. We lifted down the crate as quickly as possible, released Goliath and he raced to the fence to rub noses with Coralie.
We monitored them as we ensured Goliath was fully recovered from the anesthesia and comfortable after his two root canals, then let them in together and that’s when the real greeting began. They’d barely been apart for 24 hours but it had felt too long!
Goliath and Coralie lived in a tiny circus cage in France for over a decade and came to ADIWS in May this year as France phases out the use of wild animals in circuses. They were removed from the circus following an investigation by Free Life and cared for at Tonga Terre d’Accueil until they could be moved to the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary in South Africa, thanks to a flight donated by Qatar Airways WeQare program.
The second decade of their life home in Africa will be very different to the first – see comments for details of how to help care for them.
