Coralie and Goliath spent a decade in this circus cage but now they have a chance to spend the next decade in the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary. This will also signal the beginning of the end for the use of wild animals in circuses in France.

In 2021, France passed a law phasing out wild animals in traveling circuses. First, prohibiting breeding wild animals in circuses and setting minimum welfare standards, then the full ban on wild animal acts comes into force in 2028. The standards have enabled the removal of the first animals from French circuses, and by 2028, the cages will be empty.

Following an investigation by France’s Free Life Association, Coralie (13 years) and Goliath (11 years), also known as Naveen and Faith, have been removed from Cirque Idéal and are being cared for in the Tonga Terre D’Accueil, temporary holding facility near Lyon, which has cared for over 500 wild animals from cases such as CITES violations, cruelty, confiscations from traffickers, illegal exotic pets, as well as enforcing the new circus rules and ultimately, the French ban. Like one of ADI’s Temporary Rescue Units in a country where we are emptying circus cages, this important facility protects the circus survivors while a permanent home is found – with your help that will be ADIWS.

We have secured permits from France and South Africa, we are looking for flights, and building at ADIWS. WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT for amendments to their habitat, for travel crates, transport (air and road), and food, care, and veterinary treatment for life.
