Kiara and her son Scarc, then and now. It’s been ten years since ADI reunited Kiara with her cubs and Scarc has grown into a big and impressive lion, but he’s still close to his mum.

In the summer of 2014, after Peru passed a circus animal ban, ADI moved in with police and officials on a circus in Cusco that was defying the law. The circus surrendered Kiara, but blocked the removal of her cubs Scarc and Mahla. Kiara was utterly distraught and called into the night for them.

Within a week, accompanied by riot police and SWAT teams, ADI saved them and reunited the family.
