“Fabulous” – Ruben health update

“Fabulous” was Dr Peter Caldwell’s reaction to seeing Ruben during our veterinary day at the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary yesterday (which many of you watched live on Facebook). Having examined Ruben the day after he arrived from Armenia (and reviewed videos since Ruben’s arrival), Dr Caldwell was pleased with his overall improvement in such a short space of time – can you believe it was 26 days ago he stepped out of his travel crate?

Dr Caldwell said Ruben’s interaction with his toys is helping his movement and balance and the design of the habitat is right for his current condition. He noted an improvement in his spine which was very good news. Although there are still issues with his walking he is steadier and his balance better. He feels Ruben should remain in the smaller section of the habitat while he builds his strength up. His medications and supplements will remain the same and Dr Caldwell plans a sedation in about three months for a full assessment and probably dental work with Prof. Gerhard Steenkamp. He also believes Ruben’s vision is better than originally believed.

Ruben continues to inspire and amaze us all!
