Anniversary of Kiara and cubs reunited

Ten years ago today was one of the most emotional in our history, when ADI reunited Kiara with her cubs Scarc and Mahla. The family had been torn apart by a circus in Cusco, Peru but ADI rescued them in two separate raids enforcing the country’s animal circus ban. They are still together, enjoying life in the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary, South Africa.

TEN YEARS ON AND THE CUSCO FAMILY NEED YOUR HELP AGAIN.

10th Anniversary: Day 9 of emptying Peru’s animal circuses

THE BATTLE TO EMPTY PERU’S ANIMAL CIRCUSES TURNS IN OUR FAVOR. Ten years ago today, ADI was nine days into the historic Operation Spirit of Freedom to enforce animal circus bans in Peru and Colombia. We had raided three circuses but were meeting fierce opposition and being blocked from removing all the animals. The whole momentum of the rescue would change on this day thanks to a lion called SMITH! That’s him in the first pic at the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary, South Africa and here’s how he changed everything and led to over 100 animals being saved.

Peek-a-boo

16-year-old Kiara2 is one of our seniors at the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary but hasn’t lost any of her stalking ability. We cut the grass in sections of the habitats to encourage the next season’s growth, but Kiara2 still manages to flatten herself in the short grass as she creeps forward before springing up to check out whoever is passing by. Daughter of Leo and Muñeca, she lives with, sister from another litter, 12-year-old Africa. She was rescued from a tiny circus cage in the desert in Peru during ADI’s Operation Spirit of Freedom, and this year, celebrates 10 years in ADI care.

Happy adoptaversary, Milo!

One year ago, Milo arrived at the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary and became fast friends with Rollo, ADIWS resident companion, guard dog, keeper, and supervisor of all human activity. Rollo had been the only dog since his arrival in 2018 until Milo arrived.

Milo has become such an amazing companion to Rollo and is such a character. He loves cuddles and being part of the action. Future volunteers will be delighted to have his company (it appears that he has an extreme case of FOMO – fear of missing out!).

Kesari anniversary

This week marked four years since the mighty Kesari arrived at the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary. We watched with bated breath as his crate was opened, and then…. Nothing. We stepped away and let him come out in his own time. He finally slipped out and went straight into a den – check out the last pic of Jan and Tim creeping up to see how he was. It took a few days before cautious Kesari roared.

Easy at sunset

Beautiful lioness Easy enjoying the African sunset in her Camo Habitat at the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary. On this day nine years ago, Easy and the other eight lions ADI rescued from a circus in Bucaramanga, Colombia, were signed into our care. Among them was Bumba – he and Easy are the last surviving members of our Colombian pride.

Last week, 17-year-old Easy returned from the Old Chapel Veterinary Clinic after an extended stay. She is suffering from irritable bowel disease and has been prescribed various medications. Will you support Easy so she can continue to build her strength and enjoy her golden years? Click here to donate for Easy.
