Coco in hospital

Dr Peter Caldwell has removed a growth from Coco’s leg and sent it for histopathology.

Coco recovered well and true to form was demanding his meal almost as soon as he woke up! Unfortunately, Dr Caldwell discovered a lump in Coco’s chest which is of concern and he has sent x-rays of this to a diagnostic screening specialist. Dr Caldwell is happy for Coco to be discharged from Old Chapel Veterinary Clinic and he will return to the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary on Friday, to be reunited with brother Chino while we await test results.

Coco has been his usual lively self and not indicated any problems – as many of you saw in the last live social broadcast, when he leapt from the platform and charged over to see us.  It was only the appearance of the growth on the inside of his hind leg that prompted us to take him into hospital. We are all hoping this will not prove to be serious but know he will get the best possible care from Dr Caldwell.

Coco and Chino were just three years old when ADI rescued them from a circus in Peru eleven years ago and flew them to a new life in South Africa. They are sons of the legendary Leo, who lived well into his twenties at ADIWS. So, although 14 years old means they are entering their senior years, we hope the boys will enjoy many more ahead of them, just like Leo.
