New reception area underway at ADIWS

The ADI Wildlife Sanctuary was originally built to house the large numbers of lions and tigers ADI was rescuing as we secured national circus bans around the world, but now, we have become a beacon of hope for all creatures across our region of South Africa.

For many animals saved from abuse, we are their only hope, so our ADIWS family of residents has grown to include antelope, tortoises, cows, sheep, goats, donkeys, horses, pigs, chickens, geese, peacocks, and other birds.

The rescue of Bahati, a young calf found in the back of a pick-up truck, cruelly tied so that she could not move without choking, highlighted how desperately we needed to provide more facilities for these poor, abused animals so that they can be assessed and cared for on arrival. The perpetrators have been charged, but for Bahati, ADIWS was the only chance of a happy future.

ADI supporters agreed with us, and by Christmas we had raised the funds needed, including a generous matching fund grant, and in late January the site was marked out and the straining posts for the fencing were planted. We are now moving forward rapidly, and our new reception facility has eight paddocks of different sizes, each with stables, shelters, and water supply.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this important project, which will allow us to handle emergencies, help injured wildlife, fight animal trafficking and enforce South Africa’s anti-cruelty laws.
