The ADI Wildlife Sanctuary is preparing to receive white lions Lei-ah and Elsa from Panthera Africa Big Cat Sanctuary after it was hit by a devastating wildfire this week. They will be taken into the quarantine unit, Stephi Habitat, where they will remain until Panthera is recovered.
Goliath and Coralie have been moved out of the quarantine unit and into their forever home, Augie Habitat, where Tarzan and Tanya spent so many happy years. It was a good opportunity for Goliath and Coralie to practice again, being moved without sedation. They were lured into their travel crates and driven to the 3.7-acre Augie Habitat, enjoying a new view of the ADIWS. As soon as the doors to their crates were opened, they bounced out excitedly and explored their new home. For the next few days, they will remain in the feeding camp and the house until they are settled and confident and will then be released into the main section of the Augie Habitat.
As soon as Goliath and Coralie were out of the Stephi quarantine unit, the team swept through it, sterilizing the house, cleaning the habitat, and moving their much-loved rubber sun bed into their new home.
GREAT NEWS: We have just received confirmation that all permits are in place to move the lions from Panthera, and into ADIWS.
The ADI team in the Western Cape arrived at Panthera early this morning. We are waiting for Lei-ah and Elsa to be sedated, get veterinary clearance for travel and be loaded up to begin their 15+ hour to ADIWS. We expect them to arrive in the dark, but we will aim to be live for their arrival. It has not been possible to provide updates from the site of the fire, as other fires are still being monitored, but we hope to provide updates during the journey.
Thank you to everyone contributing to the transport, food, veterinary and care costs for Lei-ah and Elsa. We are still some ways from our target, so please help if you can.
