Coralie has recovered well after her veterinary procedures on Tuesday – she was up and about almost immediately! The lioness, who was rescued from a circus in France, was spayed to prevent breeding and the risk of pyometra and some cancers in later life (she previously had an implant from before she arrived at the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary). Coralie also had a lump on her shoulder removed, with a biopsy sent for testing.
Returned to the night house she shares with her companion Goliath after she was treated Coralie was given access to their feeding camp for the evening. The next morning she was relaxing in the sunshine on top of the den in the pair’s main habitat. A member of the Resident Welfare Team spent the day with her to ensure there were no post surgery complications.
To ensure she recovered completely from the sedation, she was separated from Goliath, who kept a careful eye on her through the fence. The couple are now back together.
