Tomas is home

Tomas is back at the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary following major surgery at Old Chapel Veterinary Clinic.

Part of Tomas’ gut had become wrapped around itself and his health deteriorated rapidly. Dr Peter Caldwell removed part of his bowel and Tomas has been recovering in hospital for more than a week.

Dr Caldwell reports that the surgery went well and, so far, his recovery is on track. Tomas has irritable bowel disorder, so we will continue to monitor him carefully.

As a precaution, he has been released into his room in the night house overnight. Kimba came straight in to see him, but we will keep them separated until tomorrow.

The brothers were reunited at ADIWS after being rescued from a circus and zoo in Guatemala. They have been missing each other, with Kimba calling in their habitat, while in Pretoria, Tomas was roaring almost immediately after recovering from surgery.

We are all so pleased and relieved with the news and will continue to monitor Tomas closely. A huge thank you to everyone sending well wishes, love and prayers for Tomas.
