TARZAN REUNITED WITH TANYA AFTER VETERINARY TREATMENT.
Dear Tarzan is struggling with his osteo-arthritis. On May 26 he stopped taking his medication, eating and moving about. ADIWS veterinarian Dr Peter Caldwell checked on Tarzan after his work with Goliath and Coralie. Tarzan’s condition is serious but we were relieved that Peter still feels there are steps we can take to keep this old warrior comfortable.
Tarzan was sedated and after a review of his liver and kidney results, Dr Caldwell changed his medication and gave him a boost of vitamins and other supplements. Tarzan does not like sleeping in his house and always favors his den with lioness Tanya. So as Peter worked on Tarzan, the ADIWS team added a special insulated floor and additional insulation around and on top of the den. A heated panel was installed inside, and a channel dug to bury the power cable. All before Tarzan woke up.
Tarzan and Tanya are Guatemala circus survivors and their love and devotion to each other has moved people all over the world. Unusually, Tanya – who will often chase off people who go near Tarzan – stayed some distance away, watching everything from the trees in their main habitat. When almost everyone was gone, she came to the door of the house where he was recovering. Once he was fully conscious Tarzan was let out and they headed out to the newly improved den together. Tarzan now has an upgraded den as well as his love to keep him warm.
