Tarzan gets a dining table

Tarzan has joined Simba to have a raised table for eating his dinner.

This simple measure is proving a huge boost with seniors with arthritis at the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary. Just making it a little easier to eat has increased the number of days they finish their meal.

Tarzan generally eats outside, while his beloved Tanya has dinner inside their house, and they are reunited after dinner (the house has two rooms so both can eat inside if they want). Our practice at ADIWS is to have the lions and tigers eat separately, so we can monitor their food intake accurately. This also avoids any squabbles over food.

Tarzan and Tanya are notoriously slow at coming in for dinner – whereas most of the lions race in when they hear or see food coming. The sound of the Resident Welfare Team calling and calling our Sanctuary lovebirds is a frequent refrain at dinner time.
