Understandably, Luna (pictured yesterday) has been missing sister Jade after her recent passing due to cancer.
When there is a loss like this, we implement our grief protocols at the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary. These involve doing everything we can to relax and relieve the anxiety of companions and engage them with extra enrichment. Feliway, a pheromone product familiar to many domestic cat owners, is sprayed in key locations like their house, dens, A-frames and so on, to comfort and reassure them. We also use diluted lavender oil, which we often use for the cats on flights and for crate training, helps to calm them. These techniques proved very effective last year when David became withdrawn after the loss of Easy.
Sun and Moon (sisters from another litter) seem to be behaving as usual, but Luna appears to be missing Jade and has been a little distant from the others. This is not completely out of character, because it was Jade who bounced between everyone, with Luna a little more reserved.
The ADIWS team is monitoring for any changes in the dynamic of the group and will work to help them through the loss of a family member.
