Simba’s dining table

Handsome Simba was rescued by ADI eleven years ago with brother Rey during our Operation Spirit of Freedom which emptied Peru’s circus cages.

These magnificent old warriors are now 18 years old and seniors at the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary, South Africa.

Simba has severe arthritis in his hind legs and supporters will be familiar with his crooked back legs. He was recently examined by Dr Caldwell, who warned that at some point it will no longer be possible to relieve his discomfort.

For now, he is slowing down but remains active, roaring, and occasionally climbs onto his platforms. An additional feeding station has been added halfway along his 2.5-acre habitat, and this week, a dining table built so he can eat more comfortably. It is designed so that it can be moved to different positions, including into his house.
