Dr Peter Caldwell sedated Muheeb at Old Chapel Veterinary Clinic for tests, X-rays and ultrasounds, to try to establish the cause of Muheeb’s weight loss.

Muheeb is a young lion who arrived at the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary, South Africa, in May last year after his rescue from the illegal trophy pet trade in Kuwait. He has settled in well, roaring with the other lions and is very playful with his enrichment toys.

His food, dietary supplements and vitamins were all increased and the weight loss stopped, but he has not gained weight, which is what we need to see. However, he has remained lively and engaged throughout.

We know everyone will want to send Muheeb love and well wishes, and we are hoping Dr Caldwell will find the answer to the mystery soon.
