It has turned parts of the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary into something looking like a battlefield, but our project for clean waste disposal and water recycling is well underway!
We will soon have more than half of the five new septic tanks and four water filtration and recycling stations in place. All ‘grey’ water (e.g., from showers and washing) will be filtered and reused for toilet flushing, watering plants etc. A massive step in our water conservation.
It could not come at a more important time, with our region in South Africa suffering a drought in what should be the rainy season – not unlike Los Angeles, which is seeing devastating fires after an almost unprecedented lack of rainfall. The reality is that scientists predict climate change will increase extreme weather events, and water security will become vital in many regions.
Huge thanks to everyone who has contributed to this project to secure the future of ADIWS, which will preserve water from our wells for residents, like Sun, and people to drink!
Special thanks to Carole and Howard Baskin of Big Cat Rescue whose matching grant of $50,000 took us almost halfway to our target, to The Rick and Michele Palmer Animal Relief Fund for their $1,250 match, and to so many other supporters with special acknowledgements to Dr. Lo Sprague, Elise Zoli, Penelope & Philip Wright, Natalie Massey, Bob Kemnitz and Carolyn & Tom Long.
With your help we have raised an incredible $123,600 – we are just $2003.61/£1,626.86 short of our target ($125,600) to cover the full cost!
